Welcome to my Garden:
This is the memorial site and concentration camp
at Dachau, Germany. Over 32,000 Christians and
Jews lost their lives here. A visit is an unforgettable
experience. I received an e-mail yesterday that said
Great Britain is considering removing this part of
history from their text books because it may be
offensive to some. It was certainly offensive to
the 32,000 that lost their lives! I was so moved
by my visit that I penned the following poem.
Written September 1988
DACHAU
God we do not understand
The cruelty of your creation.
The inhuman treatment
Of nation against nation.
The indignity suffered
In the hands of few,
Without regard for life,
For Christian or for Jew.
The horror that we saw,
We can't imagine how,
Those brave, souls endured
The cruelty of Dachau.
Our prayer dear God,
For our fellowman...
May we dwell together
And try to understand.
That not one of us is superior
To our sister or our brother.
And history will not repeat itself,
If we love and serve each other.
